Time Out

What I like about Matthew Berry's writing is that he is very interesting and takes the time to describe things if it is important or if he is trying to get a life. Usually after the end of a chapter, or before a new chapter, he has a few pages about himself or him connecting to his writing ehich he calls "time out". Matthew Berry likes to tell the reader about what is coming up in the next chapter about telling a story that has happened to him in his life, or to just sum up what was in that last chapter that the reader just read. Some of the titles of these "time outs" are called:

Trade advice from My Late, Great Uncle Lester. In this time out, Matthew Berry talks about how big of an impact his great uncle Lester had on him before he died on Febuary 28, 2011.

Picking the Draft Order. This time out takes the time to tell us about hoe BIG draft day is for him and silly ways and funny situations he has gotten into on draft day. "We buy 10 rubber duckies, paint them different colors, and race them. Travis tells me. First place in the duck race gets first pick, second gets second, and so on."

The Best Fantasy Team Names. There are some weird Fantasy Names for any team out there, but her are some that Matthew Berry has encountered in his life.
Football: Kibbles and Vicks, Hakeema Matata, Brady Gaga, I'm bringing Hasselback.
Baseball: Hameltime!, 902Cano, Baby got Bacne, Honey Nut Ichiros, 99 problems but a pitch ain't 1.

Engaging Intro and End

I'm about halfway through Fantasy Life by Matthew Berry and the book is pretty good so far. Matthew Berry is good at talking about sports but he also is good at incorporating humor so it's not as boring. If Matthew Berry had a trademark then i would have to say it would be the ellipses. One example of this would be... "Usually those are parishioners..." Now let's try to make this more exciting! So here's a video on Matthew Berry...

Syntax and Diction

Matthew Berry usually does not use a lot of elevated diction. But one element of syntax that he uses frequently is a hyphenated modifer. One example of this is, "Out-of-Convention-with-Nothing-to-Play-For-and-Happens-to-Own-Michael-Vick-Steve." Instead of putting a period or any commas, Matthew Berry uses hyphens to describe one of his buddies in one of his fantasy leagues.

Differences between Hyphens and Dashes

Matthew Berry's sentence stuctures are mostly telegraphic or medium. But sometimes if he wants to describe something important or if he is trying to be funny he will have a long and involved sentence. I like when authors use long and involved sentences because it tells me more about what they're describing and what kind of author they are.

Krista Ramsey

The column that I read about was about a coach that stood up for his player that was involved in a crime.
The column then started to talk about even when one person is missing that it brings the whole team down.
The coach knows his player is better than causing crimes and if he focused a little more, he wouldn't get
involved in this stuff and he might notice people care about him.

"Jesse Cheatham is the guy who pulled you aside when he saw that there were two versions of you – the smart Aiken sophomore who recently passed the Walnut Hills High School entrance test, and the street kid who pulled his pants down around his knees, grew dreadlocks and ran with his friends."

This sentence really shows what this whole column is about because if you take good decisions over bad decisions then you can accomplish better things and people will think good things about you. This sentence is pretty long and Ramsey likes to use commas instead of ending the sentence.

Characters

In Fantasy Life, there are many characters throughout the book but Matthew Berry is the main character. Matthew Berry also wrote this book but he tells a lot of stories about him and his friends and family. His great uncle just past away in 2011 and Matthew really looked up to him as a role model and someone that he had a strong bond with. He gave Mattew lots of words of advice like, "The best way to double your money is to fold it up and put it in your pocket." They talked a lot about Fantasy football, baseball, etc. Matthew is a movie script writer and also has his own website that he is making about fantasy sports called Rotopass.com. So Matthew is a big writer and likes to blog about sports and also enjoy them with his friends.`
